I’ve been to Paris in every season, but there’s something truly magical about Paris in winter. The festive lights, the quieter streets, the cozy cafés calling your name… it feels like the whole city slows down and wraps itself in a kind of soft sparkle.
If you’re wondering whether it’s worth visiting Paris in the colder months… yes. A thousand times yes.
Sure, the days are shorter and the air is crisp, but that just means more time to linger in candlelit bistros, sip mulled wine at Christmas markets, and explore iconic sights without the usual crowds. And if you don’t mind bundling up, walking the winter streets of Paris might just be the best way to see the city.

Christmas Markets in Paris
Even if you’ve seen Christmas markets elsewhere, Paris knows how to do them with style. There’s mulled wine, carousels, and some of the best sparkly lights!
Tuileries Garden Christmas Market
This one’s my personal favourite, it’s right next to the Louvre, and it feels like walking into a festive fairground. You’ll find stalls with handmade gifts, French treats like raclette and crêpes, and a giant Ferris wheel that gives you an epic view over Paris.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés Market
Smaller, but super charming. Tucked near one of my favourite neighbourhoods for cafés and walks, this market is great for picking up beautiful handmade ornaments and sipping hot chocolate under fairy lights.
Must See Sights in Winter
Paris’s icons are still open and just as stunning in winter. Actually, I’d argue they’re better because the crowds disappear and the light is beautiful.
Eiffel Tower at Sunset
Bundle up and head up just before golden hour. On a clear winter’s day, the views are dreamy – especially with the city rooftops dusted in frost.

This gem feels extra magical in winter. The stained glass windows glow even on overcast days. It’s warm, peaceful, and one of my favourite places to escape the chill.
The Louvre
There’s nothing like ducking inside the Louvre on a chilly day and getting lost in centuries of art. Winter mornings are especially quiet. Perfect for a relaxed visit.

Wandering through Montmartre’s narrow lanes in winter feels like stepping into a painting. The steps up to Sacré-Cœur may be a workout, but the views over a foggy Paris? Worth every one.

Versailles Palace
Even in winter, the palace is dazzling. The crowds are way thinner than in summer, and you can actually enjoy the Hall of Mirrors in peace. The gardens may not be in bloom, but they’re beautiful in a stark, frosty way.

I took a day trip to Chartres to see its famous cathedral, and in winter, the town is calm and cozy. The stained glass is stunning, and the Christmas lights in the town square were a sweet surprise.
Disneyland Paris
Yes, even in winter. If you love Christmas decorations and twinkling lights, Disney goes all out in December. Just dress warm and plan to pop into cafés for cocoa breaks.

What to Pack for Paris in Winter
Paris doesn’t get super snowy, but it does get damp, chilly, and windy, especially around the Seine. You’ll want to layer up so you’re warm outside but still comfortable indoors.
- A warm coat – ideally waterproof, or bring a compact umbrella
- Stylish boots – waterproof and comfy enough to walk miles
- Layers – thermal tops, sweaters, and scarves are a must
- Accessories – gloves, a hat, and a crossbody bag to keep your hands free
