When I visited, I spent an afternoon wandering down the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay and then stayed the night in Reims — both spots were absolutely worth it. Just that mix of charming streets, historic cellars, and endless vineyards… it’s the kind of place that’s hard not to fall in love with.

Yes, both Reims and Épernay can be done as day trips from Paris. Trains and guided tours make it easy to visit either city and return to Paris in the evening. However, if you have more time, consider staying a night or two to fully enjoy the region’s offerings. We stayed a night and highly recommend it!

While a day trip is possible, spending 2-3 days in the Champagne region allows you to explore both Reims and Épernay at a leisurely pace, and you’ll be able to visit multiple Champagne houses and enjoy the scenic countryside.

How to Get There
By Train: The cheapest, easiest, and fastest way to reach the Champagne region from Paris is by train. High-speed trains (TGV) run regularly from Paris Gare de l’Est to Reims and Épernay, the two main cities in the region. The train trip will take about 45 minutes to Reims and around 1 hour 15 minutes to Épernay.
By Car: If you prefer driving, renting a car gives you the freedom to explore the region at your own pace. This was how we did it. By Tour: There are many guided tours available that depart from Paris. These tours often include visits to multiple Champagne houses, tastings, and transportation.
