Planning your trip to Cappadocia and not sure where to base yourself? I get it!
I felt the exact same way before my visit. Initially, I knew I wanted to stay in a cave hotel, but after doing a little bit of research, I quickly realised there’s more than one place to do this and Cappadocia is much bigger than I thought.
But let’s rewind. If you’re on the fence about going to Cappadocia this place is like a fairy tale! Cave hotels carved into rock, valleys that look like another planet, and those iconic hot air balloons floating through the sky at sunrise. It’s truly unlike anywhere else I’ve been!
While I was there, I stayed in Göreme and spent my days hiking through Love Valley and Rose Valley, watching the balloons lift off in the early morning light, and climbing up to Uçhisar Castle for views that literally made me stop and just stare.
There’s so much to see in Cappadocia, but choosing the right area to stay makes a big difference. Some towns are better for views, others for quiet vibes, and some are just super central for exploring.

Göreme
Best for: First-timers, cave hotel experiences, and hot air balloon rooftop views.
If it’s your first time visiting Cappadocia, I would probably say Göreme is the best place to base yourself. It’s right in the heart of the region, so you’ll be close to the famous Open-Air Museum, fairy chimneys, and all those dreamy hot air balloon takeoffs at sunrise.
The town has the most options for cave hotels. Some with epic rooftop views perfect for those sunrise balloon photos.
It’s great for travellers who want to be close to everything and don’t mind a little walking. Some hotels do have stairs and uneven paths (it’s a cave region, after all), but you’ll find everything from budget dorms to luxurious suites carved into stone.
I stayed at The Charming Cave Hotel, and it felt like living inside a storybook. They also had an amazing rooftop where I got up early to watch the balloons.

Uçhisar
Best for: Luxury travellers and those wanting a little tranquillity with stunning views.
Want sweeping views without the crowds? Uçhisar is perched on the highest point in Cappadocia and gives you panoramic views from almost every angle. It’s quieter than Göreme but still close enough for quick access. The village is centred around Uçhisar Castle, which you can climb for one of the best views in the region.
I would recommend this for luxury travellers and anyone wanting a more tranquil escape. The area is a bit hilly, and some hotels are built into higher terraces, so expect stairs or uneven terrain at times.

This is a great area for couples or return visitors who want something a bit different.

Looking for peace and quiet? Çavuşin is a small, traditional village that’s ideal for couples or travellers who want a slower pace. It’s close to the popular Love Valley hike and gives easy access to balloon takeoff fields without the busyness of Göreme.
This area is best for romantic getaways or those who want to stay somewhere a little more off-the-beaten-path. Most hotels are small and family-run.
