By Plane – Fastest & Most Convenient
This is what we did, and honestly, it was so worth it. We flew into Kayseri Airport because the flights were cheaper than Nevşehir and matched our travel dates better.
Even with the added cost of the airport transfer (👉 I’d recommend pre-booking your airport transfer so you’re not left waiting or overpaying at the last minute), it still worked out great.
The only thing to know? It’s about an hour and 15 minutes drive to Göreme from Kayseri, so after a long travel day, you’ll be ready to crash once you check in.
But both airports (Kayseri and Nevşehir) are small and easy to navigate. We grabbed our bags quickly and found our driver waiting with our names on a sign, super smooth.

This is where I pre-book my airport shuttle. Get the shuttle from the airport to your hotel in Göreme or Ürgüp.
By Bus – Budget-Friendly & Overnight Travel
If you’re on a budget, the overnight bus might be your best friend. It’s cheap, comfy enough, and gets you there while you sleep, so you save on a night of accommodation too.
Buses leave from Istanbul’s Esenler terminal and drop you in Göreme, Nevşehir, or Ürgüp.
That said… I personally wouldn’t do it. I like sleeping too much, and even though Turkish buses are modern with reclining seats, I know I’d arrive tired and grumpy.
If you can sleep anywhere, go for it. Bring a neck pillow, snacks, and noise-cancelling headphones.

Best for: Budget travellers or solo adventurers

Driving from Istanbul to Cappadocia is an adventure and a fun one if you love road trips and have the time. It’s about 730 km (8–10 hours) depending on traffic and stops.
What’s great is the freedom. Stop in Ankara for lunch, take a detour to Salt Lake (Lake Tuz) for photos, or overnight in Konya for its whirling dervishes.

Best for: Road trip lovers and families
Cost: Rentals from €30/day + fuel (€60–80 total)
Route: O-4 highway via Ankara, then D200
