Firstly let's cover the basics of what to wear in Italy
Excessive Jewellery and Accessories
It’s tempting to accessorise your outfit, especially when you’re on holiday and want to always look your best for that pic! However, wearing excessive jewellery and accessories can make you stand out as a tourist, potentially attracting unwanted attention. As we know, Italy is known for pickpockets, especially in popular tourist areas such as the Colosseum.
Heavy Backpacks or Bulky Bags
Italy is best explored on foot, especially in cities like Rome. You will easily want to walk these cities and take in their breathtaking architectures. I would avoid bulky bags that may weigh you down, especially when navigating crowded streets and narrow alleys. Go for something lightweight like a crossbody bag for convenience and comfort.
Flip-Flops and Beachwear
Save your flip-flops and beachwear for when you’re by beautiful seaside places such as the Amalfi Coast. In urban areas like Rome, wear appropriate footwear such as sneakers and more conservative clothing.

Light Layers
The weather in Italy can be unpredictable, particularly during transitional seasons like spring and autumn. By dressing in light layers that you can easily add or remove, you’ll stay comfortable all day while exploring Italy.
Respectful Attire for Churches
If you plan to visit churches or religious sites, it’s crucial to dress respectfully. Ensure your shoulders and knees are covered, so refrain from wearing tank tops, shorts, or short skirts. Alternatively, carry a scarf that doubles as a cover-up.
Comfortable Shoes
With its cobblestone streets and countless attractions, Italy demands comfortable footwear. You’ll be walking a lot.
