Exploring the Lodge
Our thirst for exploration led us to the various offerings of the lodge. We began at the gift shop, which presented an array of souvenirs and handmade Navajo crafts.
Goulding Lodge also boasted an on-site museum that delved into the rich history of the area, offering insights into the old Western movies and their connection to Monument Valley.
For those with a fascination for film history, a visit to John Wayne’s cabin was a must. Although, as a spoiler, this was never actually John Wayne’s cabin; it was once Mike Goulding’s potato cellar.
The lodge’s trading post was another highlight. It not only offered a glimpse into the past but also provided a deep understanding of the region’s history and culture. Towards the back of the trading post, a movie room showcased the famous films shot in Monument Valley.
To gain further insight into the southwestern lifestyle, we explored the upstairs “Living Quarters,” which had been meticulously restored to resemble the Gouldings’ home from the late 1940s and early ’50s.
Outside the museum, a beautiful carriage and breathtaking vistas awaited, offering an additional layer of historical richness.
The lodge also boasted a pool and spa, ensuring guests could unwind and relax in this scenic oasis.
A Heartwarming Stay
In conclusion, our stay at Goulding Lodge in Monument Valley left us with hearts full of wonder. The combination of comfortable accommodations, stunning landscapes, and a deep dive into the history and culture of the area made our stay truly unforgettable. If you’re planning a visit to Monument Valley, we wholeheartedly recommend Goulding Lodge for an enriching and remarkable experience that will stay with you long after your journey ends.
