How to do day trips from Verona?

Hire a car

If you feel comfortable enough to drive, this is one of my favourite ways to visit and see the towns around Verona. Two companies we would recommend are AutoEurope and RentalCars. If you are planning on driving, you should check out my guide on hiring a car and driving in Italy.

Take a tour

This is perfect if you want to avoid the stress of driving in Italy or planning the tours yourself. With Verona being a larger city in Italy, there are plenty of tours operating directly from here, making it a stress-free way to do a day trip from Verona.

Day trip by Train

While it is possible to use public transport to get to the main places within a day trip, such as Venice, Sirmione, Milan or Bologna, I would recommend organised tours or hiring a car over public transport.

  1. Buy your tickets in advance for the best prices. We recommend booking at least 3 weeks in advance if possible, especially for longer journeys.
  2. Download the Trenitalia app to get up-to-date information on train timetables and delays. You can book your tickets on the app, and it’s so much easier than buying them online or at the station! Plus it’s very convenient to have everything on your phone.

How many days in Verona is enough?

Most visitors to Verona usually stay one day however we would recommend two to see the city and all its sights. With sights such as the Verona arena and Juliet’s house, you will be kept very busy. However additional days are needed to use Verona as a travel base for day trips from Verona.

Yes, you can but it would be a long day so we would not recommend a day trip from Verona to the Dolomites as it would be roughly a 3 hour drive each way. You would be starting your day very early and returning late plus squeezing in a long drive either way. This would limit your ability to explore the region thoroughly and enjoy its breathtaking landscapes.
