Choosing where to stay in Singapore actually makes a big difference to your trip.
Before I visited, I didn’t realise how different each area would feel.
Singapore is small, but every neighbourhood has its own vibe, which I learnt during my stay, and where you stay can completely change your experience.
During my stay I visited a lot of the popular neighbourhoods that you would think about staying in, and some areas feel super modern and high-end, others are more cultural and local, and some are just really convenient for getting around.
When I was there, I stayed in Bugis, and it ended up being one of the best decisions. It was central, easy to get everywhere as it has 2 MRT lines connected to it, and had a really good mix of food, cafés, and things to do, but it is very busy so keep that in mind.
So if you’re planning your trip, here’s how I’d break down the best areas to stay in Singapore depending on what kind of trip, budget, or who you’re travelling with.

Marina Bay – Best for First-Time Visitors & Views
If it’s your first time in Singapore and you want that iconic experience, this is where you stay.
This is the Singapore you see online. Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, skyline views… it’s all here.
You can walk along the waterfront, watch the light shows at night, and everything just feels really clean and futuristic.

This is where I stayed, and honestly… I’d stay here again easily!
It’s central, easy to get around, and has a really good mix of everything. You’ve got cafés, street art, shopping, and cultural spots all within walking distance. Plus you’re not far from some cool street bars in the evening and something a bit more boujee like Atlas or Raffles.

First-time visitors, solo travellers, and anyone who wants a bit of everything.

If you’re coming to Singapore for food, this is such a good area to stay.
It’s one of the most walkable parts of the city, and you’ve got hawker centres, temples, and markets all right there.
It also feels a bit more “local” compared to Marina Bay.

Orchard Road is basically one long strip of malls, restaurants, and hotels. It’s very central and super easy to get around from here.

If you want restaurants, bars, and a bit more nightlife, this is a great area.
Everything is along the river, so it’s really nice to walk around at night.

It’s separate from the city, so it feels more like a holiday destination within Singapore.

It’s quieter, more residential, and known for the colourful Peranakan houses.
I visited this area and loved it, but I personally wouldn’t stay here for a first trip unless you’re happy to travel into the city.
