Verona is famous for being intertwined with Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” making it a popular destination in Italy! Earlier this year on a road trip through Italy, we spent a night in Verona and managed to tick off most of its iconic sights in just one day.

Next, visit the Scaliger Tombs, located near Piazza dei Signori. These elaborate Gothic tombs are a fascinating glimpse into Verona’s medieval past. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Piazza delle Erbe
Head over to Piazza delle Erbe, the oldest square in Verona. The lively market here is perfect for grabbing a snack or buying souvenirs. The architecture is stunning, and there’s no entry fee.
Torre dei Lamberti (Lamberti Tower)
Climb the Torre dei Lamberti for a panoramic view of Verona. The entry fee is €8, and tickets can be purchased online. The 84-meter climb is worth it for the breathtaking views.

Casa di Giulietta (Juliet’s House)
Start your day at Juliet’s House, a must-see for any fan of Shakespeare. The entry fee is around €6, and you can buy tickets in advance online to avoid the queues. Tickets do sell out, so I would highly recommend this. Don’t forget to rub Juliet’s statue for luck!

Adige River
Stroll along the Adige River, taking in the picturesque views. The river walk is free and offers a serene escape from the bustling city centre.
Castelvecchio Bridge (Scaliger Bridge)
Cross the historic Castelvecchio Bridge, which dates back to the 14th century. The bridge offers fantastic photo opportunities and connects you to the Castelvecchio Museum.

Home to the impressive Verona Arena. This large square is perfect for people-watching and enjoying the vibrant city life.
Arena di Verona (Verona Arena)
One of the iconic sites is Verona Arena, a Roman amphitheatre that still hosts concerts and events. The entry fee is around €10, and it’s best to buy tickets in advance to avoid long lines.

Morning
Start at Casa di Giulietta

Explore Piazza dei Signori
Continue to Piazza dei Signori, often referred to as the “living room” of Verona. The square is surrounded by magnificent buildings like the Palazzo della Ragione and the Loggia del Consiglio.
Walk through Piazza delle Erbe

Visit Arena di Verona
As evening approaches, visit the Verona Arena. This ancient amphitheatre is still in use today, hosting concerts and operas. If you’re lucky, you might catch a performance, so make sure to check in advance.

Finish your evening (before or after dinner) at Ponte Pietra and Castel San Pietro. The evening light on the river and the city is magical, making it the perfect spot for reflection and taking in the beauty of Verona.

We drove to Verona with our rental car, but you can also get there by train or bus. The main train station, Verona Porta Nuova, is well-connected, making it an easy day trip from other parts of Italy. If you’re flying in, Valerio Catullo Airport is the closest.

Walking is the best way to get around Verona. The city is pedestrian-friendly, and most attractions are within walking distance of each other.

For a convenient one-night stay, consider booking a hotel near the city centre. This will allow you to maximise your time and easily access all the main sights. We stayed at Hotel Accademia and found the location really good and were able to walk everywhere.
