Travel hacks you need before your next trip!

If you find travelling stressful at times, then this list is definitely for you. We have 51 travel hacks that will ensure you’ll always book, pack, travel, and arrive efficiently and stress-free! These are all travel hacks that I have learnt and used over my decade of travelling. We have a big list to get through, so let’s dive right in!

THE LIST

  1. Save money by travelling on holidays, such as Christmas.
  2. Better yet, fly red eye! You’ll save money on a hotel room by flying overnight as well!
  3. Search for fights on a comparison website such as sky scanner. This way, you’ll always get the lowest fare.
  4. Book your hotel straight after you book your flight. If you leave it too long, you’ll pay a fortune!
  5. This also goes for booking airport transfers or car reservation; booking earlier is always better.
  6. Better yet, check if your hotel has a free airport transfer.
  7. Make sure passport is not expired and has at least 6 months left on it.
  8. Check if you need any visas for the countries you’re visiting before you book. Some of the visas can be expensive or have a lengthy application process.
  9. If you’re planning on bringing any prescription medication, make sure to bring a letter from your doctor.
  10. Check if your credit card includes free lounge access or travel insurance.
  11. Check if you require any vaccination for the country you’re arriving in.
  12. If you’re travelling to a country that is a little risky, keep up to date with the news in case you need to change your flight.
  13. Roll all your clothes you’ll fit so much more in.
  14. Put all your shoes at the bottom of your suitcase, so they don’t crinkle your clothes.
  15. Put a fragile sticker on your bags so that it is handled a little more gently.
  16. Pack a power board. You’ll most likely need to charge more than one thing.
  17. Pack a portable charger as well.
  18. Pack an international plug converter!
  19. Pack a backpack. They are better to use when sightseeing so that your hands are free to take pictures.
  20. Pack all cables in a sunglass case. This will keep them safe, so they don’t get damaged.
  21. Avoid packing unnecessary items, such as a hairdryer. Your hotel will most likely have this.
  22. Pack some snacks for before your flight. Airport food is pricy!
  23. If you’re leaving your car at the airport, take a photo of where you left it. You’ll most likely forget after a long holiday.
  24. Always take a pen to fill in the departure and arrival cards.
  25. Print off your hotel address and directions. You’ll also need the address for your arrival card.
  26. Let your bank know you’re travelling; you don’t want your account frozen while you are away.
  27. Online check-in as soon as it opens. This way, you’ll be able to pick the best seats!
  28. Most airports have free WI-FI, so connect to it to avoid using your own data.
  29. Put all jewellery in your jacket pocket so that you can go through quickly and avoid being delayed by the metal detectors.
  30. If you’re travelling in a pair, choose a window and aisle seat. People generally will avoid the middle seat, so you may get the whole aisle to yourself.
  31. Board the plane last; you’ll be able to see if there are any good seats left if you want to move.
  32. If there is no space in the overhead compartment above you, put your suitcase in front of you so you can easily grab it on the way out.
  33. Chew gum when taking off so that your ears don’t block.
  34. Bring on an empty water bottle. Staying hydrated while on a plane is essential.
  35. Locate your gate as soon as you pass through security; it could be further than you think.
  36. Wear layers. This will help you control your temperature on the plane so that you’re not too hot or too cold.
  37. Also, bring socks and a scarf in case you need extra warmth.
  38. Bring a toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, and moisturiser on a flight, especially if it is a long light.
  39. Leave the air vent open above you so that the air can circulate. This way, you’re less likely to get sick.
  40. Add a ribbon to your suitcase so that you can spot your bag when it’s on the carousel.
  41. Download offline maps, it will make it easier to get around a new city without using your data.
  42. Download the country’s best rideshare options. This way, you have it ready to go when you arrive.
  43. Download a currency converter app that you can use offline.
  44. Download all your Netflix, eBooks, or podcast before you leave or aboard the flight.
  45. If you can’t find a charging station at the airport, plug it into the back of a TV.
  46. If you’re on a layover, try and walk around and stretch as much as possible; your body will thank you later.
  47. Bring a little cash in the country’s currency you’re going to. It will make it so much easier when you arrive.
  48. If you’re planning on getting an Uber or a Rideshare, walk a little out of the airport so that you avoid the surcharge.
  49. If your flight gets cancelled, wait in line and call the airline at the same time so that you have the best chance of getting it sorted quickly.
  50. Learn the basic phrases, such as thank you, hello, I’m lost, if you’re going to a country that’s a foreign language.
  51. If you have a food allergy, make sure to have that translated into the country’s language so that you can make sure the waiters know.
